It depends on what she is doing and what he is doing. If she is cleaning the kitchen while he is sitting, then he should take out the trash. If she is sitting and he is sitting, then she should take it out if she thinks it needs to be taken out. It's situational. Nothing to do with women's lib or chivalry. Just sharing the work.
